Home Office Tips

Since last year, more people have unexpectedly started to work from home. With such a sudden shift you might not have had time to make your work from home space truly yours. At Faber Builders, we believe that you should be able to enjoy every part of your home, and not dread any of it. Following this philosophy, we wanted to put together some tips for everyone working from home to help make their space feel like a place they want to be and make work exciting!

Find a space where you can work

Picking a space is one of the most important things you can do. If you’re in a small, cramped space, you are going to never want to work. If you work out of your bed, you’ll probably want to just take a nap. And if you work out of your kitchen, you could get interrupted by family members who are home. You’ll want to designate a room or space that is solely for work.

Lighting is important

Lighting is important

Since you’ll be working in front of your computer all day you will want to limit eye strain and headaches. One way to do this is to make sure your space has natural light. If you are unable to find a space with natural light make sure the space has plenty of lighting. A small light on your desk will also help you out, especially when you are doing small tasks!

Paint the space

By painting the space, you will surround yourself with colors that inspire you! You can even pick a color to help encourage a certain mood! Did you know that Lime Green helps with giving you a burst of energy because green reminds people of life and renewal?

Give yourself a view

When setting up your home office make sure to give yourself an interesting view! This helps give you something to look at throughout the day instead of just a plain wall. Ideally, a window’s natural light will help to brighten any mood!

Invest in a good chair

If you’re going to spend all day in a chair, you might as well get a good one! If you don’t, your body might ache by the end of the day, and you’ll be unmotivated to work.

Keep your area clutter free & organized

By only keeping the things you use on your desk you will be able to work faster and more productive. Don’t clutter your desk with decorative items, but rather keep those on a shelf or space nearby. Keeping things clutter free and organized will ultimately help you feel less overwhelmed.

Buy a ring light

We all know that Zoom meetings have become more common. Look your best in these meetings by investing in a ring light! Ring lights help to light up your face and make you look more professional. They are easy to use and can be set up behind your laptop or off to the side to give you that extra lighting for your meetings.

Improve your set up

Improve your set up by buying a laptop riser, wireless mouse & keyboard, and maybe another monitor

Working off a laptop can really strain your neck, since you’re constantly looking down. Invest in a laptop riser to bring your laptop up to eye level. After you buy a riser, you’ll want a wireless mouse & keyboard, so you aren’t stretching to reach your laptop. If you have a small laptop, buying a second monitor could help make your work more productive.

Buy a printer

Investing in a small printer will help you complete some work that you just can’t do on a computer. Finding a perfect place for your printer will help to make the space feel more streamlined. If you can figure out a clever way to hide it, like in a cabinet or on a shelf, your space will feel less cluttered.

Put your shoes on

Put your shoes on – trust us

While this one might seem silly, it can really help you get into that working mood. You wouldn’t walk around an office without your shoes, so why work without them? This helps to get you in the mindset to work, and hopefully be more productive!
