Autumn Home Maintenance Checklist

With autumn beginning on September 22nd here are some things to check around your home in the next two months before the Rochester snow falls!

Test winter equipment

Make sure to test your winter equipment. You wouldn’t want your snow blower to stop working right before the first snow storm!

Check your detectors

Smoke detectors & carbon monoxide devices should get their batteries changed once a year, check & replace them all so you will be set for the next year!

Fertilize & aerate your lawn

It is recommended that you aerate your lawn once a year and fertilize it in the fall for a glowing lawn in the spring and summer. You can even rent a lawn aerator to get the job done!

Water your lawn

It may seem strange, but your lawn still needs water during the fall. Watering during the fall helps your lawn recover from summer and get ready for the winter ahead!

Take care of your outdoor plants

Fall is the best time of the year to take time to prune plants and trees. One key is to make sure your keep branches away from your house, so they won’t drip onto your roof and siding.

Change your filters

To keep your furnace in good shape, make sure to change the filters, if you haven’t done it in a while, it’s always safe to have a fresh one handy before the winter season.

Clean your gutters & gutter spouts

Towards the end of the season, make sure your gutters are all clean and rid of all of the fall leaves before blockages damage your gutters.

Pack away your summer furniture

You don't want your summer furniture to get ruined by harsh winter conditions, so don't forget to either pack them away or put a cover on them!

By doing these things before the winter you’ll have much less to worry about during the winter and have more time to sled, ski, and build snow sculptures!
