Moving With Pets

Moving can be stressful, but add a pet that you can’t communicate with? A little more stressful, but not impossible. Here at Faber Builders, we want to make your moving process as easy as possible. Below, we’ve complied some tips for pet owners to help make the move simple and stress-free for your furry friends.

Contact Your Vet & Update Their Information

The first thing you should do is contact your vet and update your pet’s information. That means, if you are moving out of the area, let your vet know so you can get all your pets’ records to bring with you. If you are staying in the area, update your address with your vet, on their collar tags, and with your pet’s insurance.

Get Them Used to Moving Supplies

To make the packing process less stressful for your pet start to introduce moving boxes and materials early. Let your pet explore the materials at their own pace, and when they do give them a treat! This helps your pet view the materials as a positive and something that they shouldn’t fear.

Stick to Your Routine

It may be hard to stop packing once you’ve gotten the hang of it, but you must remember to try to stick to your pet’s routine. Make sure you are playing, feeding, and walking them at the same times that they are used to. This helps keep them calm and not fearful of what you are doing.

Stick to Your Routine

Introduce Them to the Neighborhood

If you’re moving with a dog take time walk them in your new neighborhood. This will help them get used to the smells of the area and they will be more familiar once moving day comes.

All Faber communities are built with sidewalks throughout, giving you plenty of safe space to walk your pet!

Find a Place for Them on Moving Day

On moving day it is recommended that you leave your pet with a friend or in a kennel to keep them away from all the action to reduce their stress levels. If you are unable to keep your furry friend away see the next tip!

Create a Safe Space

Moving from one area to another is scary for a pet. To get them used to their new home make sure to create a small safe space for them. Confine them to one room or section of the home and let them get used to it! Fill the space with all of their favorite blankets, beds, toys, and food & water (plus a litter box if you have a cat).

Create a Safe Space

Remember that these are just tips to help keep your pet stress free. While this can’t be done 100% you can do all you can to make sure your pet is comfortable in your new Faber Builders Home! That’s also why all of our communities have sidewalks for walking your pets, we want them to love their new home as much as you do.
