Several Faber Homes team members are excited to be on the Gala Committee. Leading the way is Faber Homes CEO Bernie Iacovangelo as Gala Co-Chair with Carla Palumbo.
As the son of two Italian immigrants Bernie is no stranger to the struggles that come with starting a new life in a new country. “My parents would always tell me ‘there’s no place like America’ and this always stuck with me. I have been lucky enough to live my ‘American Dream’ and now it is my turn to help others live theirs.”
Interest rates are on the rise in 2017. Since the Federal Reserve voted to raise a key interest rate by a quarter of a percentage point in December mortgage rates are on the rise. The move comes with the intent to raise rates several times throughout 2017.
If you were shopping for a home in 2016 then you know that real estate experts were predicting that interest rates would soon be on the rise. As 2017 rolls in their predictions are coming true, and the year has begun with a higher rate than any point in the previous year. Now experts are saying that the days of 3.5% rates are in the rearview mirror.

To buy, or not to buy. That is the question for many Generation Y'ers.
No doubt, the economic waves in recent history (and present times) have made it difficult, or presumably difficult to live the coveted American Dream. Limited job prospects and student debts have made it challenging to save for a down payment, and many are weary of the all-time-low interest rates. But the truth is, now is arguably the best time to buy a home.
When you’ve made the decision to list your home, there are a number of things you will need to do to ensure your house is ready to be shown. For pet owners, the list is even longer, so we’ve collected a few tips to help you prepare your home for sale.
Relocation or Boarding. We recommend not having your pets out and about in your home during showings, because you never know if you have a pet lover coming through your door. Imagine being fearful of dogs, and having one bombard you when you enter a home you’re considering making an offer on. You might think twice about making that offer. Also, if animals are loose in the home, there is always a risk of injury, therefore it is not a smart decision to allow pets to wander about the home when you are not present.
Pruning is one of the best things an arborist can do for a tree – but it can also be one of the worst things as well. If taken too far or done incorrectly, pruning will harm a plant, but if done correctly will keep a plant healthy and increase its growth and productivity. So how can you make your efforts more effective? First, it’s important to know the best seasons in which to prune differing plants. Here’s a quick guide.
Early Spring (now):
Perennials (semi woody such as Russian sage or butterfly bush)
Evergreens (especially boxwood and holly firethorn)
Flowers (summer-flowering shrubs, vines, trees, hydrangea and roses)

Ready to start decluttering your home but don’t know where to start? Try this quick list:
VHS movies, CDs and other outdated technology. Nostalgic, maybe. Clutter? Definitely. Either have these items converted into digital formats, or get rid of them.
Old baby gear. Most cribs and car seats, for example, have expiration dates or dates the manufacturers recommend not using the item any longer for safety reasons. Wait for Babies R’ Us’ trade in events (twice per year) and get 25% off a new item, or, simply, take these items to a recycling center.
Kitchens are usually the hub for excitement in our homes. Positive and sometimes negative. To ensure harmony, we’ve compiled this list of five tips on how to keep the peace within the family, by starting in the kitchen.
Exchange the disliked chores. If your significant other’s least favorite kitchen task is emptying the dishwasher, do it before he or she has the chance. If taking out the trash is a dreaded daily task of yours, ask your significant other to do it instead. Change up job responsibilities and relieve a little pressure and anxiety. This way, the task will still be accomplished, but the person who hates doing that task won’t have to do it!
I cook, you clean. If you always feel like you’re doing the dishes, perhaps instill this house law. Decide which days of the week each person will be responsible for cooking a meal, and then the other will automatically be responsible for doing the dishes.
Rachacha. The ROC. The Flour City. The Flower City. The Festival City. Known by many names, Rochester is also synonymous with beauty, welcoming residents, amazing eats and affordable living. Considering a move to Rochester in the near future? Perhaps the following with help your decision along.
Let’s start with food, because who doesn’t love food. If you move to Rochester, we promise you’ll never go hungry! Yeah, we have all the chains, but if you’re a fan of breaking free from the regular spots, we invite you to feast on what we’ve coined as the “Garbage Plate.” It’s possible you’ve seen this plate of yum on popular television shows like Man Vs. Food. It’s far from fine-dining, so if that’s what you’re looking for, we suggest any of the following: Dinosaur BBQ, TRATA, Black & Blue, or Next Door.
Faber Homes Announces New Community Lot Presale
Builder to Deliver First Homes in Queen’s Park this September
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Faber Homes will release the first nine lots in Section 1 of its new West Henrietta residential community, Queen’s Park, beginning today, Friday, February 19. This new development comes on the heels of the completion of Berkshire Park, Faber Homes’ largest residential community of over 480 homes, also located in West Henrietta.
“We are thrilled to begin the construction phase of this beautiful new community in West Henrietta and provide our customers with their dream homes,” said Bernie Iacovangelo, President and CEO of Faber Homes. “The successes of our neighborhoods, especially Berkshire Park, fueled our decision to further invest in the community, and provide another neighborhood for homebuyers in Rochester.”
Rent or buy. It’s a question many face, especially those millennials who are a few years out of college, perhaps even married with a child, yet still paying rent. Many wonder if the investment of a home is worth it. If the costs will justify themselves.
We came across this great tool from Trulia that helps potential buyers see how much of a savings owning a home can provide, compared to renting an apartment or home. For example, for someone spending $1,000 per month renting an apartment who is looking for a home that costs $140,000, the costs result in a 27% savings of owning versus renting with a 30 year mortgage. The fact remains: you can save money while simultaneously building equity.
If you've been searching for a home in Rochester but nothing you've seen suits your needs, we invite you to attend our First Time Homebuyer webinar.

It’s the room in our home that sees the most traffic, and in many cases, the most clutter. We kick our shoes off, throw our bags down, and bring some of the outdoors, in. The mudroom gets its name for a reason! At Faber Homes, many of our floor plans allow for mudroom spaces to be enhanced, so below, we’ve provided some inspiration to get you thinking about how to maximize efficiency for your family, and avoid entry way chaos.
Keep kids in mind. We all know how good kids are with organization. Not very. Things seem to pile up everywhere in their rooms, on the stairs, in the kitchen, and it always seems that they’re losing something; “Mom! Where’s my…” When designing spaces that children (and teens) have access to, consider making them as user-friendly as possible. Doors and drawers, while very beautiful in most cases, are a second step that they don’t want to take. Kids are more likely to hang their things on hooks, as opposed to opening a closet door, finding a hangar, and then finding space amidst the rest of the closet’s inventory.
We had so much fun talking about the new 2016 Pantone Colors of the Year last week with kitchens, that we decided to take a look at some do’s and don’ts for incorporating Rose Quartz and Serenity into bathroom designs.
Once upon a time, vintage pink and blue subway tile bathrooms were all the rage (think: pink sinks, tubs, and toilets). While we can appreciate a well-designed pink tile bathroom, it takes a lot to make it work. That said, we believe this year’s Pantone colors make for the perfect inspiration for new bathroom themes and remodels. Here’s a few ideas on how to incorporate the colors into your design.
