Gen-Y: Now is the Time to Buy

38.jpg
To buy, or not to buy. That is the question for many Generation Y'ers. No doubt, the economic waves in recent history (and present times) have made it difficult, or presumably difficult to live the coveted American Dream. Limited job prospects and student debts have made it challenging to save for a down payment, and many are weary of the all-time-low interest rates. But the truth is, now is arguably the best time to buy a home.

In the article, Atlanta Federal Reserve President Dennis Lockhart states that the U.S. central bank intends to raise interest rates as early as June, barring a significant downturn in the U.S. economy.

10 Things to do When You Move In

34.jpg
No one said moving into a new home was a fun process. What with packing boxes, unpacking boxes, living out of boxes… you get the idea. Not only are you busy settling in, there is what seems like a laundry list of tasks that need done as well. What needs done immediately and what can wait? Here’s a list of the top ten things to do when you move in to a new home. 1. Get your address changed. Or, if you don’t have the time after you move in, stop by your old post office a few days before you move and ask them for the paperwork to get things moving. Don’t forget to contact banks, the BMV, any mailed subscriptions you have to change your address.

Upgrades that Pay Off

26.jpg
Building a home is a fun process. You get to pick each and every facet of your home from window placement to cabinet height to hardware colors. You’ll likely opt to upgrade some items in your home, such as vaulted ceilings or stone facings on the exterior of your home. There’s a lot of options, and with Faber Homes, the possibilities are endless, so what will you upgrade while you build, and what will you work on years down the road? It’s important to understand this distinction when you go to your preconstruction meeting, as there are certain upgrades that are easier done prior to the home being built and other upgrades that will immediately increase the value of your home. If you plan on moving in the next five to ten years, you’ll want to take your home’s resale value into consideration, so we’ve compiled a list of upgrades that will pay off at resale.

Not Just Walls: Superior Walls

64.jpg
There are many things that attract buyers to a Faber Home: our attention to detail, ease of project coordination, and even our stylish models. But even before the appliances go in, walls are painted and windows are hung, we are proud to start the whole building process on a strong, sturdy, dare we say, Superior note. We’re talking of course, about Superior Walls. Oftentimes, builders will opt for foundation materials based on how remote a job site is or the expense of local foundation contractors and supplies. Faber Homes is not bogged down by these factors because we install precast concrete panels made by Superior Walls.

New Kitchen Color Schemes

72.jpg
Whether it’s time for a kitchen overhaul or you’re in the process of designing your new kitchen with Faber Homes, there are so many options to choose from. We’ve pulled a list of popular color schemes from the DIY Network to help get the brainstorming going. Reclaimed wood with ruby-red metal. In this design, you’re combining a farmhouse wooded look with industrial metals. Pick a mixed-tone oak wood floor and pair it with stainless steel countertops or backsplashes. The contrast can be built into other areas of the kitchen space as well – consider a large refurbished wood kitchen table with red metal chairs and red metal table accents.

Media Room Must-Haves

43.jpg
It’s the room in your house for relaxing, dishing up some popcorn and watching movies. Some may call it a man cave, others: a family room. No matter what you call it, every home needs a comfy media room. So get ready to design… here are some tips to make your perfect media room. For basement entertaining, consider light-colored flooring like laminate wood or vinyl. This will help brighten up the space void of natural light, and make the room look larger. For a more masculine look, paint the walls a dark blue, grey, green or even red.

Henrietta Highlights

83.jpg
Considering moving to Henrietta? Home to every major retail store and restaurant you could possibly need, Henrietta is also home to fabulous schools, churches, community centers and more. If you build with Faber in our growing Berkshire Park development, here’s a quick list of some nearby amenities.

Counter Top Materials

Choosing the right counter top material for your kitchen or bathroom is an important decision. After all, it’s where you clean up and prepare food, and also has an effect on your home’s value. Granite. Granite countertops are among the most elegant materials available. They’re also among the most expensive. But if you are up for it, the natural stone has outstanding strength and other beautiful qualities. Granite is highly resistant to scratches and heat, making it an asset to cooking. One downside to granite is that it must be sealed because it is a porous stone and absorbs fluid. If not sealed, it can harbor bacteria. This only needs to be done every 10 to 15 years, however. Granite can run between $100 and $225 per square foot.

Party-Ready Kitchens

251.jpg
It’s where you cook meals and gather with family and friends. Especially in open-concept layouts like those you’ll find in every Faber home, kitchens can be designed with entertainment in mind. So where do you start when designing the space? Islands and peninsulas not only create approachable areas for gathering, they also provide additional counter space and storage space. Toss a few bar stools on one side and you have a space perfect for simultaneous food prep and conversation. This allows you the space to cook and clean up while still entertaining your guests.
